Ras Penco

The love song 'Thousand Miles Away', has carried newcomer Ras Penco the extra mile needed for his 'buss' in the music industry.

Born Reinford Woodburn and hailing from Riversdale, St Catherine, the young singer is trying to live up to his nickname as the 'Mighty Warrior.'

With an interest in music from a tender age Ras Penco got his first introduction to music when he was introduced to the Fifth Element family by singer Chuck Fenda. Penco told THE STAR: "I'm a new artiste who is just trying to bring my style to the people, a whole brand new generation to the reggae music."

Penco started working with Fifth Element in 2003, opening shows for reggae act Richie Spice locally and internationally. His first single, Go For Your Gold, produced by Fifth Element and released on the VP Records Label, got a great deal of international publicity. However, not satisfied with living in the spotlight, Penco left Fifth Element in 2007 and was signed to Uprise Music in 2008. It was under Uprise Muisc that A Thousand Miles Away was released. The artiste sees the song as his biggest buss thus far.

Fourteen tracks

Penco said: "Thousand Miles is getting there. It's opening a lot of doors locally and internationally. Musically, I'm just trying to be different and to be a different kind of artiste."

Penco is currently working on releasing some new singles, namely So Free, Living Life and Right Place. His debut album will, hopefully, will be released in the summer under Notice Production and Uprize Music and will have 14 tracks written by Ras Penco and assistant writer Wayne Thompson.

The artiste has no intention of slowing down, having performed at several major shows such as All Spice, an annual concert held at the Belvedere Sports Complex; South of France Reggae Festival Irie Jamboree, and California Reggae Pon Di River in the United States.
